New business approach pays dividends

Williams Engineering is constantly improving in its quest for the best performing effluent storage ponds.

Williams Engineering Limited, based on the Hauraki Plains, is an agricultural manufacturing business that has been producing high quality, practical and cost-effective farm machinery for the past 40 years.

Farm effluent needs to be considered a resource, but every dairy farm is different so no one system suits everyone.

There are many different factors that need to be taken into consideration, such as soil type, annual rainfall, on-farm safety and management, milking season and much more.

Over the past decade Williams Engineering have developed their business approach, completing training in farm dairy effluent system design and management in conjunction with Dairy NZ.

Seven years ago, Williams Engineering became Farm Dairy Effluent Design accredited. As an FDE design accredited company, they can design and install a fully compliant effluent system from start to finish.

This has been the key to their product development and company growth after noticing some faults during the accreditation process, says Williams Engineering owner Andrew Williams.

“We discovered that part of our range of travelling irrigators was not compliant in some high risk soil types so we had to go away and work hard on how we were going to develop our irrigators to meet the requirements.

“Over the past five years adequate effluent storage has been a big part of the business.”

The team starts by visiting the site to do a farm specific plan.

“We have been involved in the project management of over 100 effluent storage ponds. The ponds are lined with HDPE which are lined by Agruline whom we have been working with for nearly eight years.

“From the pond, we precast and install our own concrete panels to do sand traps, bunkers, weeping walls etc.

“We spec’ the right pumps, agitators, mainline systems, hydrants, right to the irrigator.”

The team at Williams Engineering have the experience, and reputation to provide an efficient and cost-effective turnkey solution for your farm.
