Growers needs vs commercial realism

With the 2016-2017 avocado season imminent and the largest industry crop to-date forecasted at 5.2 million trays, marketers are busy formulating their flow plans to ensure optimum market results.

Working in conjunction with its marketing team, and led by new general manager of operations and grower services Jarrod Redwood, the Just Avocados grower services team is planning the harvest strategy to match the marketing flow plans.

“We are ensuring that we not only fulfil our customer obligations and have fruit available at the right times, but also treat our growers as individuals, taking time to understand their orchard’s individual needs while not losing sight of the impact on orchard health and sustainable yields,” says Jarrod, who recently joined the Just Avocados team.

“Just Avocados has been committed to offering our grower base flexibility within our harvest plans – and this is a strategy we will continue with. As a family-owned business Just Avocados take pride in delivering a personal approach.

“Looking forward, we will continue to deliver with our flexibility around harvest timing, being innovative in the way that we operate aligning grower needs with commercial realisms.”

Just Avocados works closely with five packhouses across the three main growing regions, and while this takes a lot of detailed planning, it places Just Avocados well to offer international customers supply continuity which is a key component to building long-term value-based relationships.

“As a business Just Avocados has made some key changes to its marketing strategy for the coming season, which we believe will add true value to our growers.

“From a supply-point-of-view we have always treated our supply base as individuals and we are now aligning that strategy with our marketing platform with the goal to optimise premium markets, creating value across the total supply chain, while supporting on-orchard best practice and aiding long-term sustainable yields and return crops year-on-year.”
