The HortNZ Leadership Programme is back for 2021 and programme director Sue Pickering of Develop Ltd says she’s excited to get the ball rolling.

The programme is for emerging potential or current leaders in the fruit and vegetable industry.

“We’ve got 26 places available this year and there are 20 scholarships that people can apply for,” says Sue.

“We’ve had more than 275 graduates and it’s just going from strength to strength.”

Participants will primarily, but not exclusively, be growers or their employees or those from organisations closely associated with growing.

“There are no qualification requirements either. We get a lot of different types of people who are putting their hand up to lead.”

“It’s three phases – residential at Lincoln for phase one, participants will work a little on their own projects in phase two and phase three sees them go to Wellington.”

Sue says the programme is a great way to build relationships in the industry and learn plenty of useful information.

“The really great thing about this is it’s in the context of horticulture and you’re getting people from all over New Zealand with real commonality within that industry, with a range of differences as well.”

Applications are open now and close on June 20.
