Tackling food waste one solution for nitrogen woes

One third of food produced globally each year is wasted – about 1.3 billion tonnes of it – and it’s worth NZ$887 trillion.

Households, even in New Zealand, send 258,886 tonnes of food waste to landfill every year, throwing out $751 million worth.
