Young riders camp at Equidays

The next generation of equestrian riders will meet some of the industry’s top international performers and learn valuable skills, as part of the Fiber Fresh Pony Club Camp at the 2014 Equidays.

Held over three days at the Mystery Creek Events Centre in Hamilton this coming weekend, Equidays offers variety of equine elements and entertainment, and also features top international clinicians.

Young riders have the chance to meet top international performers at Mystery Creek during this weekend’s Fiber Fresh Pony Club Camp at Equidays.

The Fiber Fresh Pony Club Camp is running for its second year and will see 35 young riders aged between nine and 17 stay onsite during Equidays. They will be involved in clinics and seminars each day run by world-class clinicians such as Sean Cubitt (Ireland) and Bernie Traurig (USA), ranging from jumping and dressage to natural horsemanship, theory, nutrition and carriage driving. Riders will also be able to observe all other day and evening sessions, competitions and demonstrations as part of Equidays.

Equidays event executive Lynley Schollum says the number of applicants this year was phenomenal.

“This year we had so many applications, we could have filled the camp three times over. It’s really great to see. We have 35 kids with their ponies camping for three days, meeting lots of new people and making friends – they just love it. Most of the children save up hard to pay for the camp themselves.”

Fiber Fresh marketing manager Kelly Stewart says Fiber Fresh is thrilled to be involved with the event.

“Even though we are a global company and sponsor top riders such as Kiwi Sam McIntosh who rides for Team Audi in the Netherlands, it’s important for us to be involved at the grass-roots level of the sport – all of today’s superstars started at pony club level, so it’s about continuing that legacy.

“It is fantastic to be able to provide support at this level, even after 30 years in business, and continue to help foster enthusiasm and skills at a young age. It’s so important for the future of the sport.

“Having ridden myself for many years, it really is satisfying to be able to help the next generation through Equidays and the pony camp – no other big event has such a grass-roots focus.”

The Fiber Fresh Pony Club Camp is a New Zealand Pony Club Association event. Equidays is on from Friday October 17 to Sunday October 19, at Mystery Creek Events Centre in Hamilton.
