Ngatea teen ‘most outstanding rider’

It’s been a big year for Ngatea teenager Ben Broad, who not only signed up as a new member of CMR Red Bull KTM motocross team, but also finished third in the senior New Zealand Motocross Championships.

Hauraki Plains College student Ben Broad has been signed to the CMR Red Bull KTM motocross team.

Well prepared
“I’ve paid more attention to fitness and getting myself mentally prepared before races and that’s paid off because I’ve had no breaks in the last three years.”

Ben has the strong support of his parents Roy and Celeste and brother Isaac, 12, who also competes in motocross; and his Te Aroha-based grandparents Gillian and Ernie Bygrave.

“We are very proud grandparents. Ben is a level-headed, modest young man who has been rewarded for his hard work and consistent good riding with these results,” says Ernie.

“Despite the time and travel involved in competing, Ben hasn’t neglected his studies and recently passed NCEA with excellent marks.”

The race season is nearly over for 2015. Ben turns 17 in November and in 2016 will compete in the senior championships again, this time as CMR Red Bull KTM team’s official rider.

After leaving collage, Ben’s plans are to compete overseas for six months. “That way I’ll find out if I’m good enough to make a career out of motocross. If not I’ll go to university and do a business management degree.”
